Time for another round of the Take Away on To-Go dining options. This time with a focus on Uptown Charlotte restaurants. Not only that, but there is a bonus here. Most of the Uptown Charlotte restaurants in this round up are in hotels.

Do you see where I’m going with this? Plan dinner to-go, or stay Uptown for the evening and enjoy your to-go dinner in your own private hotel getaway. Or, safely and socially distanced as you dine-in at any of these fine Uptown establishments. Wink, Wink, then enjoy breakfast the morning after, too!

As always it is my pleasure to share these Charlotte dining recommendations on WCNC’s Charlotte Today. Show co-host , Beth Troutman, is a real foodie. As you will see, we had a blast talking about all the good eats shared in this post. This segment will air on Friday March 5, between 11am and 11:30. You can tune in live or live stream on the WCNC/Charlotte Today site – the link is here.

Between now and then, I’ll be adding in more photos of food, chefs, and beautiful Uptown Charlotte hotel rooms with a view. But wait, there’s more! On Friday afternoon, I’ll embed the Charlotte Today video here, so you will have all of these delicious details in one spot.

Come back for all the updates and be sure to bookmark this post for future reference. Then be sure to call these restaurants and hotels for to-go orders or reservations. All are working hard to make an overnight visit or any meal of the day, a safe and pleasurable experience for us all.

This Uptown Charlotte Restaurants Take Away on To-Go, Starts at The Asbury in the Dunhill Hotel

The Dunhill Hotel is Uptown Charlotte’s historic place to stay and dine. Built in 1929 as the Mayfair Manor Hotel Apartments, the building was designed by Charlotte architect, Louis Asbury, Sr. Now you know the story of the origin of the name of the hotel’s restaurant, The Asbury.

In the hotel, part of the historic charm is that no two rooms are alike. While the building as been totally redone, the feel and allure of this historic boutique hotel remains. The marble floors in the penthouse are original, as is all of the artwork. The downstairs lobby bar had been totally redecorated and can’t wait for guests to gather once again. All of the staff at The Dunhill have gone through the Count On Me NC program.

As you check in, see through dividers help staff and customers keep socially distanced. The same is true for all of the hotels mentioned in this post. Stay tuned for pics!

Dine In, Take Out or Enjoy The Pleasures of Room Service

Chef Mike Long is at the helm of the Asbury. He continues the tradition of Southern fare with a local spin. You can call ahead for take out or order ahead online or make reservations to enjoy onsite. Menus and reservations links are here. The room service menu offers many of the restaurants signature dishes. Book the penthouse for an overnight getaway. Here you will enjoy your in-room meal, or before or after dinner cocktails on one of the two private patios overlooking the Charlotte skyline.

Featured in this segment, Mike’s infamous Asbury Burger, with fries, of course. The beef here is house ground. The sandwich spread with a saffron & pickle mayo, topped with caramelized onion, mushroom and finished with a griddled cheddar. Ummm, Yes, please.

Also featured: pan roasted salmon served with braised field peas, a pickled chow-chow. and a delicious squash bisque served to sauce. In the video, I mistakenly take the chow chow for preserved lemon! Still the piquant flavor is a delicious foil for the creamy sauce and rich, perfectly cooked seafood.

The Dunhill and The Asbury are located at 237 North Tryon Street. The Asbury is open Thursday night through Sunday brunch. The bar is now open Sunday -Wednesday evenings. Room service for hotel guests is available anytime. Call for hotel reservations 704.332.4141. Be sure to check out the staycation specials! For Asbury reservations, click here.

Next Stop, Holiday Inn Center City and forchetta Italian Kitchen

This Holiday Inn is another long time hotel in Uptown Charlotte. The location is, as the name suggested in the heart of Charlotte’s Center City. Service here is top notch. Like all the hotels mentioned here, staff is working hard to keep all of us safe and social distanced from the time we check in and even in the elevators. The hotel is located at 230 North College Street. Reservation information is here. The Uptown Charlotte restaurant at the hotel is Chef Luca Annunziata’s, forchetta.

forchetta has been closed for dine-in guests since the pandemic started, only serving to-go and offering room service to hotel guests; but Luca and the team at the hotel are excited to announce a mid-April reopening.

Luca is a long time friend. I’ve covered his Charlotte culinary adventures since he first opened his first area restaurant in Ft. Mill, Passion 8; till the time he won the Bravo TV culinary competition show, Chopped. and on to the opening of forchetta at the Holiday Inn Center City.

The food at forchetta is all Luca. From the rich braised elk short ribs in brown sauce with Brussels and polenta to the award-winning faggotini, it is spot on. The faggotini are tiny crepe purses, stuffed with a lobster and ricotta filling and napped with a pomodora sauce that you are going to love. The menu at forchetta is available for hotel guests via room service or to order to-go. And right now, hotel guests may also enjoy a private in-room dinner served by Luca himself. Take my advice, don’t miss this window of opportunity.

Charlotte’s New Grand Bohemian Hotel Offers a Feast for the Eyes and the Palate

Two of the Queen City’s newest of these Uptown Charlotte restaurants may be found in the same spectacular Uptown hotel. The new Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte, located at 201 W. Trade Street is home to Mico restaurant on the main level; while Buho Bar, is at the top of this high rise hotel. Chef Whitney Thomas heads the kitchen as executive chef for both culinary experiences.

If you are a fan of the Grand Bohemian Kessler Collection, then you know that each hotel is different. In Charlotte the hotel’s artsy Argentinian theme that takes guests to a land far away. The gorgeous interiors and the food at both well-appointed restaurants follow the theme of a South American experience. Like Mike, Luca and several of the other chefs mentioned, locally sourced ingredients are an important factor to Chef Whitney.

The food at both establishments is delicious and beautifully presented, even in to-go boxing. While in-room dining is not currently available, both Mico and Buho offer plenty of space for socially distanced dining.

If you’d like to dine al fresco, there is the Grand Bohemian Garden, just off the side entrance to Mico. In a staycation sort of mood? An evening at the Grand Bohemian will certainly take you away from it all.

For reservations and to learn more about the Grand Bohemian Hotel Charlotte, visit the website here. For restaurant reservations at Mico, or to order Whitney’s food to-go, call 980.999.5550. Menus and more info, here.

The Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel is home to Angeline’s and Merchant & Trade

Shortly after the Kimpton opened in Charlotte, I featured the hotel’s high rise roof-top bar, Merchant & Trade in this post sharing options for Cocktails with a View.

The bar and the view remain just as stricking. As are the rooms at this Uptown Charlotte hotel and the food at Angeline’s is deliciously Italian inspired chef prepared fare. At the helm in the Angeline’s kitchen is chef Kevin Atkinson. Kevin is a Charlotte native, who after stints at several high end restaurants in Chicago, has come back home again.

On the menu at Angeline’s and featured here, whipped ricotta, lavender honey, lemon oil, pistachio and Italian bread to start. Pappardelle, with a spiced beef and pork Bolognese, and for a sweet finish, zeppole. These classic Italian doughnuts come with thick caramel sauce for dipping. Angeline’s is open for dine-in and to-go service. Menu and reservation info here.

If you need a break from at home officing, book a King corner spa room at The Kimpton. The bird’s eye view is of the ballpark, so if there is a game on, you’ve got spectacular patio seating. And, there is a place to office during the day before you go down to dinner at Angeline’s or up for cocktails at Merchant & Trade.

When dinner is over, soak away in the spa-like soaking tub and shower combo – honestly I was ready to move in.

Not in a hotel, but you need to know about Haymaker

Owned by North Carolina chef William Dissen, chef and owner of Market Place restaurant in Asheville, Haymaker is located at 225 S. Poplar Street. The focus is on local ingredients and well-crafted cuisine While William continues to be very hands-on at Haymaker; the big news this year is that well known Charlotte chef David Quintana is also now cooking up a storm in the Haymaker kitchen.

Among Uptown Charlotte restaurants, Haymaker is still relatively new. It is located across from the corner of ball park; and in fact, you can see it from the Tryon street side of the high rise rooms at the Kimpton.

On the menu for this Uptown Charlotte Restaurants Round Up

You will love the all local options; and what chefs Quintana and Dissen are doing to pay homage to the farm fresh flavors. It’s all seasonal, so expect menu changes and we happily move from winter to spring. Right now on the menu; a not-so-classic beet salad that sits atop a honey scented ricotta. Asian pears, compressed NC apples, local beets are piled high. The salad is topped with a mix of winter greens, crunchy hazelnut picada and dressed with a lovely citrus vinaigrette.

For the main course, go with this pounded pan-fried pork chop. Topped with preserved summer vegetables that are lightly pickled. The chop is served with two delicious saucing options: a piquant red pepper coulis and a zesty White Rose miso mustard.

Haymaker is also offering to-go cocktails. In the video you’ll see I say that I’m enjoying a delicious bourbon on the rocks. But it was actually so much more. This bourbon cocktail is infused with Benton’s bacon as the base of Haymaker’s Benton’s Old Fashioned. Also in the mix, maple and Angostura bitters. A square cube of ice and a wide zest of orange complete the picture.

Haymaker is currently open for Dinner Wednesday – Thursday. Closed on Sunday and Monday. Open Saturdays and Sundays for Brunch. Serving farm fresh fare and fine cocktails (also available to-go) .

More about Haymaker here. The menu is available for Take Out & Curbside Pick Up. Order to-go online here or, call 704-626-6116 to order for pick up after 5pm for dinner and 10am for weekend brunching.

Hungry For More?

Fine, additional Uptown Charlotte restaurants and other take-away dining options in my January post on a similar topic here.

As we get closer and closer to ending this year long pandemic, continue to stay safe. Wear your masks and keep a safe social distance. Keep supporting Charlotte area restaurants, bars and hotels by dining in or taking out. They need your business right now more than ever.
